Grace Lutheran Church, ELCA

We are Grace people, and there is a place for you here.
In 1942, the Rev. J.J. Lippoldt began a door to door campaign in Darlington to form a mission church in the city. The congregation organized as American Lutheran Church in Darlington on January 17, 1943. The Rev. Lippoldt had also established mission congregations in Bagley, Cassville, Burton, and Cuba City and also served in Mineral Point and Lancaster. On May 14, 1943, American Lutheran purchased the Odd Fellows Hall and converted it for church use. At a congregational meeting on May 7, 1946, the name of the congregation was officially changed to Grace Lutheran Church. The Odd Fellows Hall was used by the congregation until 1969, when the present building was constructed.

Today Grace Lutheran remains an active part of the Darlington community as we live out the words, "God's work. Our hands." We tithe ten percent off the top of every Sunday's collection to support God's work in the world, including monthly gifts to Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Lutheran World Relief, Southwest CAP Food Pantry, and Sugar Creek Bible Camp. Every year we provide children with camperships, school kits, and winter wear. In 2015, members of Grace Lutheran began a free community Thanksgiving Day meal. Since 2016 we have reached out to our neighbors at Darlington's annual Cinco de Mayo Festival.

Children and youth play a vital role in the worship life of our congregation every Sunday. It's not uncommon for our young people to join the adults in handing out bulletins and passing offering plates, reading scripture, and serving communion.

We are Grace people and we believe that Jesus Christ sends us out to feed the hungry, welcome every child, seek out the stranger, give thanks to God in all things, and follow the way of the cross.
